Re: I wrote a book about drugs and Soul Coughing

Groovy people–

So, I wrote a book called “The Book of Drugs.” It’s largely about drugs. There’s also a lot about the weirdness, and messed-up-ness, of life in Soul Coughing.

It would make a lovely Christmas or Hanukkah gift! Except, it’s not coming out until January 2012. Sorry bout that. I tried.

However! It can be pre-ordered on Amazon:

http://amzn.to/book-of-drugs

I’ll be touring solo in 2012, reading from the book, as well as playing songs–and doing a Q&A with the audience, which should be interesting. Tour dates below.

Hope you read! Hope you dig! And, hope to see you soon.

Mike Doughty

PS, If you click through all the customers-who-bought-this-item-also-bought stuff, several pages in, you’ll find the only thing on the list that’s not a book or an album: a stainless steel funnel meant for pouring liquor into a flask. Not a flask–a funnel to fill the flask. Awesome.

PPS, If you’re looking to get something that’s available now, I’m running a Holiday Sale on my merch store: http://merchdirect.com/mikedoughty. Use the promo code “doughty15″ at checkout, and save 15% on anything in the store.

Re: Doughty: back in NY Cit-ay

Hey handsome pals!

Our long national nightmare is over. By this I mean our U.S. tour, which a) isn’t really over, as there’s two gigs in New York, tonight, and tomorrow, and b) actually was such a fun tour that we’re all bummed it’s done.

Band sounds great! Supatight, Supagroovy! There has been much raucous, dancey motion and singalonging.

Tonight! The Brooklyn Bowl.
Tomorrow! The Bowery Ballroom.

Info below. Please enjoy.

Also, ps, here’s a kind of “trailer” for the tour–shot in Denver–that we have completed just as the tour ends. Yeah.

Doughty shakes an antidepressant and the Midwest

Dear compatriots:

Did you hear the thing about me playing a capsule of an antidepressant on YES AND ALSO YES? It happens to be true. Here’s a video of me holding the little tiny capsule up to a mic and shaking it percussively on some tunes:

Now, the tour curves into the Mighty Midwest, and I’m stoked. The band sounds RIDICULOUSLY tight. I kind of used James Brown’s “Love Power Peace” 1972 live album as a model for this show–it’s like a fully realized, cohesive, propulsive set sequence of songs–like a truck with wings and a rocket engine.

Upcoming!

Minneapolis tonight!
Chicago on Saturday!
Cleveland on Sunday!

Midwesterners have made for fantastic crowds, for me, for a long time, so I have very high hopes for fun-ness. Hope to see you thar.

Signed, Your Man on I-94,

Mike Doughty

Everything’s coming up roses and daffodils.

Gorgeous cronies:

OK, that’s maybe optimistic. Some things aren’t coming up roses and daffodils. For instance, the obesity rate is still lamentable.

But! I’m still touring with my Band Fantastic. It’s been kinda great thus far. Very tight band. Rather funky.

This week! We’re in:

Denver on Tuesday!
SLC on Wednesday!
Los Angeles on Friday!
San Francisco on Saturday and Sunday!

It’s my ardent hope that you’ll attend. Detailed information is below.

We bought our merch-seller Jessie a red superhero cape, and she’s been wearing it. (unrelated to Halloween–having a superhero selling one’s shirts is clearly a winning sales strategy) She’s got buttons that say YES AND ALSO YES on them. Just that, not my name–that way, friends and coworkers will be confused about what you’re affirming. Go up and ask, she’ll give you one.

We’re also making recordings of every show; you can buy a CD on your way out, right after.

Hope to see you!

Mike
